Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the attack made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
